It is pleasant and never distracting or off-putting.FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. And it isn’t overly showy the soundtrack isn’t trying to impress or recreate one genera or style over another. It is all stuff that sets the tone and the mood for the sequences that is used for. GRAPHICS & SOUND – SOUND CLOUDSīlack Skylands‘s soundtrack has a subtle earworm quality to it whilst it isn’t something that is instantly catchy it is still something you’ll unknowingly be humming and having echo about your head long after the fact. So I cannot wait to see how the game will handle with further development and some of the bugs mentioned being dealt with.

One that when it is in full swing it is a joy to play and a compelling experience at that. And by the time you read this I do not doubt the previously mentioned ones will be being dealt with or outright solved.Įven with these issues, Black Skylands still offers a rock solid gaming experience.
I’ve had to replay Black Skyland’s opening three times now.Īgain, bugs are expected for an Early Access title, and I don’t begrudge the developers for some being in at this stage. So when a big bug comes along, your only remedy is resetting and hoping you don’t need to start the entire thing all over again. These glitches aren’t helped by the fact that Black Skylands is one of those games with only one save slot and no way to load earlier states. Needless to say I was rather nettled about that. And this was after a good five or six hours of play time. As a result I had to restart the entire game again from the beginning. That didn’t work on the second boss and the fight wouldn’t load properly at all. Quitting and reloading solved the first glitch. And in another the boss loaded in without a health bar, and again was made immortal. In one such fight I had the boss come back from the dead as soon as it had been killed and was unkillable. The fights themselves are fun and easy enough to navigate on their own. These glitches tend to appear most frequently around the game’s boss fights. Others can prove demoralizingly catastrophic.Įither Crash is avenging the death of his twin brother. They are inconvenient to be sure, but are easily dealt with. Some are minor ones that can be solved by a quick fast travel, game over, or even a quick reset of the game. Naturally when preparing for this Preview I came across a fair few of them. BUG OFFīeing an Early Access title you’d expect a game like Black Skylands to have its share of bugs and glitches. Which can be more than a little bit of an inconvenience.

But when you do so and then reach said area, you are then made painfully aware that both you and the ship need further upgrades to even stand a chance of survival.Īnd given that location can contain enemies that can one shot your ship or steal the contents of your ship’s hold any resources you might have had to upgrade the ship on hand (or even survive this onslaught) can be lost. There is one such moment where you are tasked with building a new ship to reach a new area in the game. Collect resources to get new upgrades to get new resources and repeat.
